  • 7:30-9:00pm "Che and the Cuban Revolution" Presentation by Isaac Saney Isaac Saney is a faculty member of College of Continuing Education at Dalhousie University, and an adjunct professor of International Development Studies at Saint Mary’s University, both in Halifax. He is the author of the highly acclaimed book on Cuba: A Revolution In Motion, which is being used in many university courses.

  • 9:45 -10:30am Movie Presentation: "Che, Love, Politics and Rebellion”


  • 10:30-10:50am Che's "The New Man" Presentation by John Waller. John Waller is the International Coordinator of the Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba.


  • 10:50am- 12:10pm "Che and Latin America! Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela and Che’s Influence" Presentation by Samira Amndan, followed by discussion. Samira Amndan is a Diplomatic Attaché for the Venezuelan Consulate in Toronto.


  • 12:10- 1:30pm "Cuban Youth and Che’s Ideas" Presentation by Irma Gonzalez and Jairo Rodriguez, followed by discussion. Irma Gonzalez Salanueva is a young student leader at the University of Havana and the daughter of Rene Gonzalez, one of the 5 Cuban Heroes currently held in U.S. prisons. Irma is also a leader of the Union of Young Communists (UJC). Jairo Rodriguez Hernandez is a student leader in the Union of Young Communists(UJC) in Havana, Cuba. Jairo is also the Vice President of the University Students Federation (FEU) in Havana Province.


  • 1: 30-2:00pm Lunch


  • 2:00-3:30pm "Are Che's Ideas Relevant for Today?" Presentation by Walter Lippmann, followed by discussion. Walter Lippmann is Editor-in-Chief of Cuba News.


  • 3:30- 5:00pm "Che in the Battle of Ideas, and What We Can Learn from it here in Canada" Presentation by Ali Yerevani, followed by discussion. Ali Yerevani is Political Editor of the Fire This Time (FTT) Newspaper .


  • 5:00-5:10pm Break


  • 5:10-6:30pm "Internationalism, Volunteer Work, and Che's Ideas" Presentation by Irma Gonzalez and Jairo Rodriguez, followed by discussion.


  • 6:30-6:45pm Conference Closing by Tamara Hansen
